Keynote Speakers

Antony John Kunnan

Antony John Kunnan holds a PhD from UCLA and is currently a Senior Research Fellow at Carnegie Mellon University. He has had a long and distinguished career in language testing and assessment, covering many parts of the globe. His trajectory was already marked with distinction when he won the Jacqueline Ross Outstanding TOEFL Dissertation Award for his research. Since that time, he has held academic posts/professorships at California State University, Los Angeles, the University of Hong Kong, the American University in Armenia, Nanyang Technological University, Tunghai University, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, and the University of Macau, as well as visiting posts at the University of California, Los Angeles, and Chulalongkorn University. He has published 11 books and over 80 journal articles or book chapters. His initial work on validity and structural equation modelling has led to a more recent focus on ethics, fairness, and policy. During his career, Dr Antony Kunnan has given over 125 invited talks and workshops across 36 countries, demonstrating his considerable international reputation and impact.

Other highlights include that he was the founding editor of Language Assessment Quarterly; the founding President of the Asian Association for Language Assessment; the editor of the four-volume Companion to Language Assessment; a former ILTA President, Vice President and Treasurer; and a prominent thinker in conceptualizing test fairness. His editorial activities continue as he remains involved with Language Assessment Quarterly, is Editor-in-Chief of The Journal of Asia TEFL, co-editor of the Routledge book series New Perspectives in Language Assessment, and is working on a second edition of the landmark Companion to Language Assessment. In 2024, he was awarded the Cambridge/ILTA Distinguished Achievement Award.

Cecilia Guanfang Zhao

Cecilia Guanfang Zhao holds an M.A. from Ohio State University and a Ph.D. from New York University, and is currently Associate Professor in the Department of English at University of Macau. Her research so far has focused on issues of language testing, writing assessment, and L2 academic literacy. Her work in this area has appeared in handbooks, encyclopedia volumes, and various international academic journals such as Applied Linguistics, Language Testing, Language Assessment Quarterly, TESOL Quarterly, Assessing Writing, Journal of Second Language Writing, Journal of English for Academic Purposes, ESP, and System, among others. 

Cecilia is also a recipient of two international best dissertation awards (Jacqueline Ross TOEFL Dissertation Award and Christopher Brumfit Ph.D./Ed.D. Thesis Award) and multiple regional research and teaching awards. She has served as Secretary for Asian Association for Language Assessment (AALA), Nominating Committee Chair for International Language Testing Association (ILTA), Executive Board member for China Association of Language Testing and Assessment (CALTA), and reviewer/editorial board member/section editor for various academic journals.

Neelu Singh

Dr. Neelu, a distinguished scholar in the field of Linguistics, holds a PhD from Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi, India. With a rich tapestry of expertise, Dr. Neelu has carved her niche in interdisciplinary research, spanning, business communication, tourism communication, culture and communication, forensic linguistics, public speaking anxiety and the dynamic intersections of AI with language learning and human communication.

Dr. Neelu is currently an Assistant Professor at IIIT Lucknow, India which is an institute of National Importance. She imparts knowledge to undergraduate and postgraduate students in courses such as Business Communication, Professional Communication, and Academic Writing. Her curriculum delves into diverse themes including applied linguistics, cross-cultural communication, persuasion, negotiation, and public speaking, enriching the academic landscape with her comprehensive insights.

Prior to her current position, Dr. Neelu served as a Foreign Language Teaching Assistant and cultural ambassador at Johns Hopkins University, Washington DC, further honing her pedagogical acumen and fostering international understanding.

Her multifaceted expertise extends beyond academia as she graces prestigious platforms like TEDx as a speaker, captivating audiences with talks such as "Personal Space: Luxury or Necessity", which explore nuanced facets of human interaction.

Beyond her scholarly pursuits, Dr. Neelu embraces travel and adventure, indulging in thrilling experiences like skydiving, snorkeling, and scuba diving, embodying a zest for life that mirrors her dynamic approach to research and teaching.

Sayed Ali Reza Ahmadi

Sayed Ali Reza Ahmadi is Assistant Professor of Writing in Kenai Peninsula College at the University of Alaska Anchorage in the United States. He is also holding the position of Vice President of Three Rivers TESOL in Pittsburgh, PA in the U.S.

Dr. Ahmadi earned his Ph.D. in Composition and Applied Linguistics from Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) in the U.S.

Dr. Ahmadi was granted a Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant position at the University of Georgia in the 2014/2015 academic year in the U.S. He was also granted a Fulbright scholarship at Indiana University of Pennsylvania in the 2018-2020 academic years in the U.S. He was also invited and sponsored by the U.S. Embassy in India to attend The South Asian TESOL Affiliates' Leadership Training Workshop in 2016.

Ryn Jean Fe V. Gonzales

Ryn Jean Fe V. Gonzales works with SIL Philippines as Language Assessment Specialist. Since 2016, she has also been involved as a consultant-facilitator for Regional and Division level Indigenous Peoples Education (IPED) programs, particularly in the development of the Four Minima for Mother Tongue- Based Multilingual Education program implementation.

She is the lead researcher in the Itneg Inlaud Language and Culture Documentation Project with the Itneg Inlaud communities in the provinces of Ilocos Sur, Ilocos Norte, and Abra. She is also working on a Reference Grammar of Itneg Inlaud for her dissertation under the PhD in Linguistics program of the University of the Philippines

Daniel Ari Widhiatama

Daniel Ari Widhiatama is currently a lecturer at English Language Education Study Program of Universitas Mercu Buana Yogyakarta (UMBY). His research interests are on Technology Enhanced Language Learning, ProjectBased Learning (PjBL), Language Teaching and Learning Assessment, Program and Materials Development. 


Aside from teaching and researching, he is also responsible to be the head of Global

Engagement Office of UMBY. In this division, he has some main duties such as leading international strategy and partnership, overseeing international student and scholarship service, and promoting the university internationally. Besides, he is also managing a laboratory called C-TALL (Center of Technology Assisted Language Learning) in UMBY. He also serves as the director of Program Development in iTELL

(Indonesia Technology Enhanced Language Learning) Association.
